When the Middle Feels Like a Maze

When You Can’t See the Way Forward

The middle can be a confusing place.
It’s not the starting line where everything feels fresh and full of possibility.
It’s not the finish line where the miracle has come and you can finally exhale.

It’s that twisty, tangled in-between where every turn feels like it leads to another dead end.

You pray. You try. You follow the best light you can see. And still, you end up staring at the walls wondering if you’re even moving at all.

My Season of “Is This Even Working?”

There was a time I thought I was following God’s lead perfectly — doors were opening, my heart was hopeful, and the path ahead seemed clear. But somewhere along the way, the trail disappeared.

The thing I thought would happen didn’t. The conversation I thought would change everything… didn’t. And instead of clarity, I found myself in the messy middle with more questions than answers.

I wanted a map. God gave me a lamp. And if I’m honest, I didn’t like that very much.

The Middle Isn’t the End — Even When It Feels Like It

I’ve learned that the middle of the story isn’t proof something’s gone wrong — it’s just proof the story isn’t over yet.

When the Israelites wandered in the wilderness, they weren’t lost because God had abandoned them. They were in the middle because God was leading them.

Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
A lamp doesn’t show the whole route — it just shows the next step. And sometimes that’s all God gives us: the grace for one more step.

How to Keep Walking When You Can’t See the Finish Line

1. Trade your map for a lamp.
Instead of needing to see the whole plan, ask God for light for this day, this decision, this moment.

2. Stop measuring progress by speed.
Slow steps forward are still steps forward. Your timeline is not the proof of God’s faithfulness — His presence is.

3. Build altars in the middle.
Write down or mark the moments where God has shown up so you can remember them when the path feels dim again.

God Knows the Way — Even If You Don’t

The middle can feel like wandering, but you are not wandering aimlessly. You are being led by the One who knows every turn.

If you feel lost, lean into His voice. If you can’t see far, trust the lamp in your hand. And remember — the middle isn’t forever.

For the One Who’s in the Maze Right Now

You don’t have to have it all figured out to be moving in the right direction. The God who began your story is still writing it, even in the twisty parts. Keep going. You’re closer than you think.
