When Life Feels Upside-Down and God Feels Far
I’ve walked with God long enough to know this: life can turn in a moment, and faith doesn’t make you immune to it.
One phone call can split your world into “before” and “after.”
One unexpected loss can knock the wind out of you.
One prayer can hang in the air for months — even years — without an answer you can see.
I’ve been there. I’ve prayed in the dark, wondering if my words were getting through. I’ve stood in the middle of my own upside-down seasons, searching for something solid to hold onto.
If you’re there right now, I want you to know — you’re not broken. You’re not weak. You’re human. And God has not left you.
Faith When You Can’t See the Road Ahead
Faith was never about having a clear view of the future. If it were, it wouldn’t be faith at all.
Faith is holding steady when everything else shakes.
It’s believing that even if you don’t know the outcome, you know the One who does.
It’s choosing to trust His presence more than your perception.
I can say that because I’ve seen it play out in my own life — in seasons when I couldn’t see two steps ahead, but I could take one step with Him.
Why God Can Feel Distant in the Middle
I used to think that if God felt far, it meant something was wrong with me. I don’t believe that anymore.
Sometimes He feels distant because pain is loud. The storm around you is noisy. Fear echoes. Disappointment weighs heavy. Your emotions can’t register His nearness — but that doesn’t change the reality that He is near.
Scripture doesn’t say, “I will be with you when you feel Me there.” It says, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” That’s a promise that holds, even when your feelings don’t.
Anchors for the Upside-Down
In the moments that make me feel unsteady, I return to three anchors that keep my faith grounded:
Speak Honestly to Him
God isn’t intimidated by your questions or your tears. Tell Him the truth about where you are. The Psalms are full of prayers that sound more like cries than sermons.Hold One Unshakable Truth
In the noise, cling to one thing you know about His character — that He is good, faithful, loving. Write it down. Repeat it when fear comes.Stay Connected to People Who Remind You
When my own faith feels thin, I borrow the faith of others. I let trusted friends pray over me, speak truth to me, and stand with me until I can stand stronger again.
Spotting the Miracle Mentions
Even in the most upside-down seasons, God leaves evidence of His presence — what I call miracle mentions.
It’s the text you get at the exact right time.
The peace you feel for no explainable reason.
The provision that arrives just before the deadline.
Those aren’t coincidences. They’re reminders that the story isn’t over and you’re not walking it alone.
When you start paying attention, you realize the middle isn’t empty — it’s full of signs that He’s still here.
The Perspective That Changes Everything
I can’t tell you exactly how your situation will turn out. But I can tell you this: your faith is not wasted here.
Every moment you choose to keep walking, to keep talking to Him, to keep believing when you can’t yet see — that is faith in action. And faith like that changes you.
You may not feel strong right now, but you are being strengthened. You may not feel hopeful, but you are building hope every time you look for Him in the middle of the mess.
You’re Not Alone
I’m not speaking theory here — I’m speaking from my own road. I’ve lived through the nights that felt endless, the prayers that felt unheard, the middle seasons that tested every ounce of my faith.
And I’ve learned this: God has never abandoned me. Not once.
You can trust that He hasn’t abandoned you either.
So today, hold on to one truth. Say one honest prayer. Look for one miracle marker. And remember — even here, even now, He is with you.
